DC West Band Uniform Fundraising Campaign

The large upfront cost to purchase uniforms prohibits full funding by the school’s annual budget. The school’s annual budget to the program includes equipment repairs and upgrades, staffing, classroom and curriculum materials, cost of competitions, and miscellaneous expenses. Today, the cost burden of band apparel falls onto the families. We ask the students to either wear all black clothes or supply the appropriate apparel to match the theme of the marching band performance. With the support from many, the DC West Schools Foundation and the school district could make band uniforms a reality for our students.

They play at graduations, sporting events, Valley/Waterloo parades and other special events. They bring energy and life to the occasion and make our community proud. This is a great opportunity to give back so we can all continue to have a high sense of pride in the program for years to come.

Band uniforms help foster inclusion and belonging with our students that many of them seek in their critical and sometimes challenging high school years. Imagine participating in events with bands from other schools, such as All-Conference Honor Band, and being the only students dressed in black clothing rather than formal band uniforms. Investment in band uniforms is one of the focus areas that will help drive up band participation in the DC West program by 60% over the next 4 years. A growing band program is important as research suggests that musical training can have a positive impact on brain function, including language and mathematical abilities, as well as sharpening attention and problem solving skills. This investment is a great win for our students and our community.

After credit card (2.9% + 30¢) or ACH (1.9% + 30¢) processing fees, all remaining funds will go directly to the investment in band uniforms. The donor has the option to cover processing fees enabling 100% of the donation amount to go directly to this cause. By reaching our goal, the program will be able to purchase approximately 90 band uniforms that will meet the growth expectations in the district and the program for the next 10-12 years.
